Frequently asked questions

What are Symbiotic® ingredients?

Symbiotic is Rahua’s signature standard. In order for an ingredient to be classified as Symbiotic, it must be rainforest grown wild in undisturbed virgin forest, harvested and prepared using Indigenous knowledge by people indigenous to the virgin forest environment, and it must be purchased at a price that helps to grow and sustain these traditions, build economies, and empower the indigenous people.

What is rahua oil?

Our name, Rahua (ra-wa), finds its roots in the rare ungurahua fruit found in the Amazon rainforest. The oil processed from these ungurahua fruits, rahua oil, is a highly effective ingredient for transforming dry, damaged hair, giving it noticeable shine and health. Rahua oil is also present in a range of our body care products helping to nourish and soothe the scalp and skin both.

Does Rahua® use parabens in the products? Sulfates? Silicones? Phthalates?

Rahua is paraben-free, sulfate-free, silicone-free and phthalate-free! Our formulas use plant-powered surfactants that are gentle on the skin and scalp while still cleansing thoroughly. You may not see an immediate voluminous lather with natural shampoos. Our shampoos do their job by clinging to oil and dirt and sliding away with the flow of water.

Are Rahua® products vegan? Gluten-free?

Yes, all Rahua products are vegan and cruelty free. We do not test products on animals, nor do we use any animal proteins or animal byproducts (like lanolin or beeswax) in the making of any Amazon Beauty products.

Yes, Rahua products are gluten-free. In lieu of beauty ingredients which typically contain gluten, we use quinoa. We discovered that this superfood from the Andes Mountains has a small molecular weight, which allows it to penetrate deeper, strengthening hair and improving skin’s elasticity. But for those who are especially sensitive, we always recommend consulting a medical professional or conducting a patch test.

What proteins do you use in your products?

We use a plant-based protein called hydrolyzed quinoa in our products! Rest assured, we are completely vegan and cruelty-free, so we do not use any animal or synthetic-based proteins such as keratins. Plant-based proteins tend to be gentler, lighter and more hydrating, thus strengthening your hair without weighing it down.

What is “natural aroma” and why does Rahua® use it?

The ingredient “natural aroma” is a fragrance made of a custom blend of natural plant components including notes taken from essential oils. Since it’s a proprietary mix, the ingredient “natural aroma” encompasses what’s included without revealing its unique blend.

If you are susceptible to allergens with scent products, we recommend testing in small doses.

What is the purpose of sodium chloride in the shampoo?

Sodium chloride is commonly used in shampoos as a thickening agent, helping to create the desired consistency for a better user experience. While commonly used for this purpose, it also contributes to cleansing by gently removing dirt and oils from the hair and scalp.

We carefully balance the amount of sodium chloride in our formulas to ensure the product remains effective without overly drying. Additionally, our shampoos are enriched with nourishing ingredients like rahua oil and plant-powered extracts to counteract potential drying effects and to maintain health for scalp and hair.

Where do you source your citric acid?

Our citric acid comes from cassava, a root vegetable native to South America, and is made through a natural fermentation process!

Where do you source your potassium sorbate?

Our potassium sorbate is typically derived from food-grade mount ash berry and citric fruits, depending on availability! If you have any allergies or doubts, we always recommend a patch test or consulting a medical professional first.
